Tattooed Women:

This series of oil paintings on canvas alludes to historical painting styles and themes as a means of prompting various contextual associations. To learn more click here. There are three types of works in this series: portraits, historical paintings (which allude to or parody conventions of historical painting), and tattoo "parts." The frames on the portraits are an essential part of the works. The frames have on them light pencil line drawings suggesting various antique frame styles. The drawings were derived from frames on works in the Albright Knox Art gallery collection. A detail is included below.
